Girl Scout Programs

Girl Scouts! Take a Class and Earn a Patch! Join a Happy Hollow Instructor for an interactive discussion, hands-on activities and a live animal presentation and earn a patch! Programs are designed to complete all of the necessary requirements to earn a Brownie Try-It or Juniors Badge.

Each of these programs can be taken as a 60-75 minute class at Happy Hollow, in a classroom, community center, or other non-residential facility or as a sleepover at Happy Hollow!

Sleepover programs start at 7pm and end at 9:30am. An evening snack and continental breakfast are included. Sleepover programs include an interactive discussion, hands-on activities, after-dark tour of the zoo, games and live animal presentations.

Please note, Happy Hollow does not provide the Badges or Try-Its.

Classes

Number of participants per program 40 maximum
Program Length 60-75 minutes
Fee $140 first class, $125 all additional classes

Sleepovers

Minimum number of participants per program 15 (including adults)
Maximum number of participants per program 30 (including adults)
Program Length 7pm-9:30am
Fee $40 per person ($200 deposit)
 

Brownie try-its

Senses
Discover how animals use their senses to find food, avoid predators and to survive. See if your senses are as good as an animal's and how you use your senses everyday to explore the world. Try-It Activities: 1, 2, 3, 4

Animals
Explore the world of animals while learning how they move, communicate, and are adapted to live in different places. Learn how you can observe and protect local wildlife. Try-It Activities: 2, 3, 4, 5

Eco-Explorer
What is that animal eating? Where does it live? Is it endangered? These are just some of the questions we'll answer while exploring habitats, food chains, conservation and how to observe animals without disturbing them. Try-It Activities: 1, 2, 4, 5

Watching Wildlife
Venture into the world of our backyard animals and learn how they find their food, how they build their homes and talk to each other. Participate in a wiggly and wet worm lab and create a craft that will also help your backyard buddies build their homes. Try-It Activities: 1, 2, 4, 6

 

Juniors badges

Plants and Animals
Plants and Animals are a big part of our everyday lives; from our food, to our pets, to native wildlife. Join us to learn about ecology, animal training and how we use plants to make art! Badge Activities: 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10

Wildlife
Learn about the amazing adaptations of Californian wildlife. Discover those that should be avoided while hiking and those that we use to symbolize our State all while observing live animals up close. Badge Activities: 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 10

Pet Care
Owning a pet is a lot of fun and a big responsibility. Find out what is the best pet for you, how much it costs to have a pet, how to take care of it when it's ill and learn some great training tips. Badge Activities: 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10

Earth Connections
If you love plants and animals then studying them as an ecologist is the job for you! Join us to do a field study, tell a tree's story, and play a game to learn about ecosystems. Badge Activities: 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10
